Learn about traditional tools such as brushes, ink, and inkstones.

We will introduce how calligraphy has a calming, meditative effect.

2. Practice the basics of calligraphy (20 minutes)

We will give a lecture on how to hold the brush and use ink.

You will practice drawing simple dots and lines and become familiar with the feel of the brush.

You will learn the basics of calligraphy using simple characters (e.g. "ichi" (one), "kawa" (river), and "yama" (mountain)).

3. Making a work (30 minutes)

You can choose characters that have positive meanings that are typical of Japan, such as "love," "dream," and "harmony."

We will explain the meaning of each character and how to write it.

Use the brushes to create your own unique piece of art.

4. Finalize your work (10 minutes)

Use the final copy of the writing paper to write the final piece.

Stamp it with a typical Japanese red mark (stamp) and you're done!

You can put it in a frame or a simple hanging scroll and take it home as a wonderful memento.
